Authentic LV Purchasing on eBay – It’s Possible 1
You see Louis Vuitton merchandise for sale on eBay all the time…But how do you know how to select the real from the horrendously fake?
Authentic LV bags and small leather goods will have the following hallmarks:
1. Date Code – not all LV merchandise has date codes! However, most larger items do. It should start with (for example) TH or SP and have 4 digits preceding the letters (for example, SP0067).
2. Upside Down vs. Right Side Up LV – On Louis Vuitton pieces with one continuous canvas piece wrapping around the item (for example Speedy 30, Keepalls, but NOT Pochette Accessoires!)
3. Monogram Placement – Contrary to popular belief, although LV does pride itself in consistency and quality, monogram placement CAN be cut off, but only in certain places. Certain items such as the Pochette Accessoires or the Pochette Cosmetique can have the LV’s or monogram pieces slightly cut off near the zipper or on the sides where the leather seam meets the next canvas piece. On certain Monogram Multicolore articles, for example the Speedy 30, they match up the monogram pieces at the seams, so that they “fill out” the parts where they are cut off, but often in different colors.
4. Made In…? Louis Vuitton merchandise can be made in France, to be sure, but did you know it can also be made in the USA, Spain, and Germany? Just because it has those markings does NOT make it a fake. Check the fonts to be sure, though. EVERYTHING should add up.
