TIPS FOR BUYERS:

If it looks too good to be true, it usually is.  Use your common sense. 

There are no good deals on CHANEL bags.  They are extremely desirable and retain their value.  Obsessed fans will buy real CHANEL bags in almost any condition.  There are tons of people shopping for them all the time, and if no one is bidding, there is a reason.

Research the seller’s feedback and auction history.  Look for experience with other high-end items.  Do not buy from any one who keeps their feedback private.  They obviously have something to hide. 
 
Ask questions.  Where and when did they get the bag?  How much did they pay?  These are things you can research.  If the photos are bad or there aren’t enough, ask for more.  Anyone trying to sell you a $2000 handbag should be gracious enough to send more/better photos and have enough money to either own a good camera or to pay someone who does.

TIPS FOR SELLERS:

Do some research.  A quick web search and even searching on eBay can help you find the style name of the bag.  Not only does that help lead buyers to your auction, but once you know that, you can search and find out almost any information that you need about the bag.  It’s always good to at least sound like you know what you’re talking about. 

Authenticity:  If you are not the original owner of the bag or you purchased it from anywhere other than a licensed retailer, you need to make sure the bag is authentic before you list it.  Do some research.  Take it to your local retail store.  Include any and all information that validates its authenticity including photos of logos and hardware, serial #s, date codes, receipts, and extras like dustbags and Authenticity Cards.  Selling fake bags can lead to suspension or restrictions on your eBay account, negative feedback, and bad sales that will eventually cost you more money than you made in the first place.  Buyers that use PayPal are protected and PayPal can issue refunds from your account without your knowledge or consent.  

WHAT TO INCLUDE IN YOUR LISTING:

Title:  You only get 55 characters in the title.  Use them wisely. 

Include the name of the designer, the style name, distinctive characteristics (quilted, monogram, etc) and ALWAYS the word “bag”.  The color and words like leather can be more or less important depending on the bag.  Other words like “new”, “nwt”, or the retail price are good if they are appropriate.  Look at completed listings for the same item and take your clues from the auctions that sold for the most.

As we all know there are many counterfeit LV bags and items on eBay and not everyone is a pro at spotting potential fakes. I’ve personally seen people with 5000+ feedback selling fake bags as real and below are some tips to spot fakes

1. Description Reads – “I got this as a gift” means more than likely the item is not real.

2. Seller Guarentees it to be “1000% – 10000% Authentic” overkill usually means it’s not legit

3. Seller states “I’m not sure if it is real” This means it is fake for sure, for $5 my poupette will tell you for certain

4. Seller states bas was bought on NYC street. This means bag is most likely fake

5. Seller states bag was bought on vacation in Hong Kong. This means the bag is most likely fake

6. Seller states they are direct with LV? This is bogus and the bag is not real for sure

7. Seller states bag is irregular from LV? LV does not offer flawed bags to the public, so it is fake

8. Seller claims tags are still attached to the bag? LV does not attach tags to bags, they’re kept loose in pockets usually so this means it is not real for sure!

9. Seller claims to be an authorized LV seller? If you believe this one then it’s time for a check up! LV authorizes places like Saks 5th Avenue, not Joe Schmo from Biloxi.

10. Seller only accepts money orders? More than likely you’ll get burned as you can not dispute this sort of payment, when buying a bag such as LV, always use paypal for fraud protection. NEVER BUY AN LV BAG WITH A MONEY ORDER

A little experience > I have been shopping for a COACH bag for a birthday present to myself.  I thought eBay would be the place to get a bag at a good price as these bags are so expensive.  I was totally surprised at the huge amount of new and so called “authentic” COACH purses – hundreds of them!  Lots of the styles just came out as COACH releases new bags all the time, mainly at the beginning of each season, and couldn’t figure where all these Sellers got all these new bags to list.  HMMMMM…..

Well, after already purchasing a fake Louis Vuitton on eBay (didn’t know it was fake at time of purchase), I thought I’d write about an experience I had today.  I went to a store that was recommended to me that has COACH knock-offs.  The girls that referred me to that store, told me one good way to tell if a COACH bag is fake, is if it has white stitching.  COACH never, ever uses white stitching.  I purchased a knock-off today from that store and let me tell you, does it look like the real thing!  Yes, leather trim, well made, but bottom line > still not real.  I only paid $75.00 for a very large tote replica, that came with everything that you see folks offer on this site.  The dust bag, gift tissue, the white COACH tag attached > everything!  My faux Louis Vuitton came the same way with all the perks that would make you think the bag was the real magilla .

Please > I’m not saying all the name brand, have to have purses on eBay are fake.  There are tons of honest Sellers but the problem is, who are they?  I just caught an eBay store with only Coach handbags for sale and what did all of them have?  The white stitching.  So, all I can say, is BUYER BEWARE!  Just with any thing in life, if it looks to good to be true, it probably is.  At least I know my bag is fake – a good fake – but fake.  I just don’t want other Buyers to spend a ton of their hard earned money paying a high price for a bag that isn’t the real thing. 

I understand eBay monitors authenticity, but with so many Sellers, and tons of listings, I can understand they can’t look at each one individually.  So, that’s when it’s up to you, the Buyer, if you see any item you know is not authentic, please report it to eBay.  It’s really simple, and it helps the honest Sellers out there.

I hope this helps at least one person from refraining the “what a deal” purchase, only to find the money the spent went down the tubes. 

Today it seems as if it takes a pro’s eye to tell the difference between real Louis Vuitton and the knockoffs. There are a few key differences between the originals and the knockoffs that can immediately tip you off

1. Look at the text! Though it may seem trivial, real Louis Vuitton purses have the words “Louis Vuitton Made In France” on the ends by the zipper, but knockoff Louis Vuitton has the same phrase but in all lower cases, “louis vuitton made in France”.

2. How are the straps colored and made? Real Louis Vuitton purses have straps that are a dark brown to almost brick red color while the knockoffs are a light tan color. Also the edging on the knockoffs is burgundy plastic-y stuff that peels off eventually while the originals don’t have any edging except for stitching.

3. What is the lining made of? Real Louis Vuitton is made with a material called Alcantara while the better knockoffs use tan suede and the cheaper ones use a tan velvety material.

There are also sometimes obvious differences in the logos on the purse and the material that the purse itself is made out of. Real Louis Vuitton uses real cowhide leather while knockoffs use cheap leather or generic plastic. These are all the tips that I have picked up in my 16 years of shopping, I hope they were helpful!
